As Flag Day approaches, we hope you’ll join us in flying your red, white and blue proudly. June 14 commemorates the adoption of the United States flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. Here are some other interesting facts related to Flag Day:

  • “Old Glory” was a nickname bestowed upon an American flag given to William Driver, an American sea captain, in the early 1830s. The original “Old Glory”—is now a part of the Smithsonian Institution’s Civil War collection.
  • The United States Army also celebrates its birthday on June 14, when Congress formed “the American continental army” to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War in 1775.

Today – and everyday – at Allegacy, we celebrate those who have dedicated their lives to making our flag a symbol of freedom and justice by providing smarter ways for members of the uniformed services to realize the American dream of homeownership.
